There’s something seriously special happening in East Belfast. And we’re not just talking about our Wee Taste of East Belfast Food Tour (though more on that in a sec 👀). We’re talking about the places, the people, and the passion that’s fuelling a seriously exciting food and drink scene.
From community-driven clubs and cult-status sourdough to caffeine hideouts and DJ-backed street food parties, here are five of the best food and drink spots in East Belfast. Perfect for exploring on a weekend wander.

🥟 1. Hidden Feasts at Belmont Bowling Club
It might look like your classic old-school club from the outside, but step inside and you’ll discover a buzzing little hotspot for brilliant bistro food. With retro charm in spades and legendary chef Paul Rankin in the kitchen, this place serves up comforting classics like no other. All with a generous helping of East Belfast craic.
Why we love it: It’s unexpected, unpretentious, and rather delicious.

🎮 2. Retro Fun + Indie Eats at Base Arcade in Banana Block
Once a month, Banana Block transforms into a buzzing retro playground thanks to Base Arcade — Belfast’s pop-up pinball and gaming event with serious nostalgic charm. You’ll find free play arcades, vintage consoles, and classic pinball machines like Pac-Man, Time Crisis, and Crazy Taxi — all set to a soundtrack of local DJs and good craic.
Timed sessions mean it never feels overcrowded, and there’s something for everyone: family-friendly daytime slots, adult-only evenings, and always a great mix of indie food vendors and a well-stocked bar to keep the energy up.
Why we love it: It’s part arcade, part street food market, part community party — and totally unlike anything else in Belfast.

☕ 3. Slow Sips at Terracotta
If you’re on the hunt for the best coffee in East Belfast (and let’s be honest — who isn’t?), Terracotta is a great spot to try. Small and perfectly formed, it’s got a chilled, friendly vibe and serious coffee credentials. The baristas here really care, and have heaps of experience too. You can taste it in every cup!
Why we love it: It’s the kind of place that makes you want to sit, sip, and stay a while.

🍞 4. The Champ Sourdough from Assemble Bakery
You haven’t really tasted East Belfast until you’ve had a thick slice of Assemble Bakery’s Champ sourdough, toasted and dripping with butter. This genius loaf, laced with scallions and mash, nods to a classic Irish dish while being totally unique to Assemble. Just don’t make sure it doesnt distract you from their sweet treats though – you’ll be needing one of them too.
Why we love it: Local flavour, artisan skill, and pure bread magic.

🍻 5. Saturday Tours + Pints at Boundary Brewing
Tucked into Portview, Boundary Brewing is where some of East Belfast’s indie beer magic happens. Their Saturday brewery tours are a brilliant way to learn the ropes (and taste the goods), guided by people who genuinely love what they do. Hazy IPAs, crisp saisons, dark and mysterious stouts — it’s all here.
Why we love it: Great beer, great chat, and a proper sense of community.
