On Tuesday, 11th March, we headed back to Bullhouse East — one of Belfast’s go-to spot for independent craft beer—for another epic beer & cheese pairing session.
This time, we explored a lineup of bold, hop-forward brews and funky, complex farmhouse cheeses, expertly paired to bring out the best in both pint and plate.
From smooth and hazy pales to tart, tongue-tingling sours and rich, decadent stouts, we worked our way through five knockout pairings, with proper Irish cheese at the heart of it all.

🍻 The Pairings: Where Craft Meets Curds
🍺 Bullhouse Rolling Patrick Hazy Pale – 🧀 Cavanbert
💠This juicy, easy-drinking hazy pale met its match in Cavanbert—a creamy, bloomy-rind beauty from Cavan. The ripe, earthy notes of the cheese played beautifully with the citrus-forward, slightly dank hops, making for an elegantly balanced first pairing.
🍺 Bullhouse Dry Hopped Singles Club Citra – 🧀 Milleens
💠A single-hop showcase of Citra? Yes, please! This boldly tropical, slightly bitter pale ale needed a cheese with serious personality, and Milleens brought it in spades. With its pungent rind and creamy, tangy paste, it amplified the beer’s fruity notes while standing up to its hop punch.
🍺 Vault City Iron Bry Sour – 🧀 Corleggy
💠This one was a wild ride! Inspired by that famous Scottish soft drink, Iron Bry delivered a sweet, tangy, and slightly fizzy punch. Pairing it with Corleggy—a firm, nutty, and slightly sharp raw milk cheese—created a unique contrast of acidity and umami richness. A pairing that split opinions but sparked conversation—exactly what you want in a great tasting.
🍺 Bullhouse x Coalition Camaraderie – 🧀 Hegarty’s Cheddar
💠This collab brew brought deep malt character with layered fruit and spice. Hegarty’s Cheddar, with its buttery richness, nutty depth, and sharp finish, was a perfect companion, cutting through the beer’s sweetness while enhancing its complex profile.
🍺 Tilt & Pour x Exemplar Exemplify Oatmeal Stout – 🧀 Crozier Blue
💠A big, silky oatmeal stout needed a cheese that could hold its own, and Crozier Blue was the perfect choice. Its creamy texture and rich, peppery bite met the roasted coffee, chocolate, and caramel notes in the stout for an indulgent, lingering finish. This was a favourite of the night for many!
